Volunteer: REV Crafters- Knitted KnockersKnitted Knockers are special handmade breast prostheses for women who have had breast cancer and undergone mastectomy or lumpectomy. Traditional breast prosthetics can be hot, heavy and sticky. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. They are adjustable, washable and can even be worn while swimming. Our special volunteer knitters provide these FREE to those requesting them. Connect with Jennifer Koon and the REV Crafters Club to learn more! Volunteer: NICU Hearts and Tube CoversThe hearts are called “Bonding Hearts.” Baby keeps one and Mama keeps one for 24 hours effectively transferring their scent to it. Then they switch. This way, Mama has baby’s scent (encouraging breast milk production during their separation) and baby gets Mama’s scent (teaching baby what Mama smells like). The Gtube covers are typically used by babies who have “Graduated” the NICU. Sometimes, the only way they can go home is with a small “port” in their stomach where they can get nutrition. For the heart pattern, here is what you do: Cut the half heart out Fold a piece of the fabric in half Align the straight edge of the heart with the FOLDED side of the fabric If it makes you more comfortable, you can trace where to cut before moving to the next step. If you have pins, you can also pin the pattern in place instead of tracing. Cut along the pattern/traced outline When you are done you should be able to unfold the fabric and have one whole heartAgency: My Preemie & Yours The hearts are called “Bonding Hearts.” Baby keeps one and Mama keeps one for 24 hours effectively transferring their scent to it.
