Backpack Buddies is designed to fight weekend hunger. Thousands of children in our community rely on free or reduced meals they receive at school. Children at partner schools who experience hunger are enrolled in the program and receive a backpack containing nutritious food to eat during the weekends each Friday during the school year. 

The Backpack Buddies project is an assembly line setup. 

Step into the shoes of a young adult and embark on an eye-opening journey through the Reality of Money simulation. Hosted by REV, this free financial educational event is designed to empower area students with essential life skills in managing their finances. As students enter the simulation, they are transformed into wage-earning, bill-paying individuals with responsibilities ranging from housing and transportation to monthly expenses. Participants will make financial decisions that directly impact their budget and lifestyle as they visit each interactive station. Throughout the event, students witness firsthand the consequences of their choices, gaining valuable insights into real-life scenarios they'll soon encounter. Afterwards, participants are equipped with a deeper understanding of financial management and a newfound confidence in navigating their financial future.

Your role as a Station Leader: You’ll provide guidance and support, ensuring students grasp the fundamental principles being taught. With a detailed rundown of the program provided beforehand, you’ll be fully equipped to engage with students, answer questions, and facilitate meaningful discussions that reinforce our key learning points.

Love to craft, sew, or crochet? Join the REV Crafters for a morning of creativity and care as you put the finishing touches on handmade projects that spread joy like only handmade items can.

You'll be stuffing cat beds, ironing hearts, cutting out hearts, cutting out port pillows, stuffing NICU octipi, making cat toys, making dog toys, putting together toiletry bags, and crocheting, etc.

New for 2025! Katie’s Krops empowers young growers to plant and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes, donating the harvest to feed those in need. Their flagship garden, just around the corner from REV HQ, is ready for some upgrades. Join us as we repair garden beds and help set the stage for a season of growth and giving!

Tools – If possible, please bring and Impact drill and Circular saw

For our furry friends in need of a home, we make sure laundry is done, dishes are washed, the grounds are maintained (grass mowed, bushes trimmed, plants watered, parking lot and play yards are free of debris) and the inside and outside of the building are clean and in proper working condition. We take on the honey-do list for the day. 

Come assemble Halloween gift bags and treats to be delivered along with the meals on the pre-determined routes for the day. 

Come support families of the NICU. REV team members will clean out the NICU family kitchen, organize the My Preemie & Yours supply closet, and restock hygiene kits for the parents. Ultimately, placing a finishing touch of stenciled paintings on the front of both supply closet doors.

Hallie Hill has something for everyone, whether you’re pulling weeds, mucking stalls, sprucing up spaces, or tackling other projects that keep the sanctuary shining. Not to worry, the day wouldn’t be complete without a tour and plenty of quality time with the animals.

The Summerville YMCA brings people together, compelling others to action. Come lend a hand at the Y to help benefit their programs and events. Full details are still in the works. 

We'll have two sites for 2025.

Downtown Summerville:

Bring your helping hands to work on a variety of beautification projects to spruce up Helping Hands of Goose Creek! Projects include landscaping, cleaning, organizing, detailing the van, sorting, food, and stocking shelves. 

Bring your garden gloves, lawn tools, and wear closed toe shoes. 

Be ready to bend with your knees and help feed those in need. East Cooper Community Outreach provides numerous opportunities for volunteers. Their needs include preparing for their upcoming Pickleball fundraiser, stocking the Wellness Pantry, pre-packing Farmer's Market bags for delivery in McClellanville, or shopping the market to fill food orders. Not to worry, if you need a less strenuous option, help staple and prepare bags for the Thanksgiving items collection event.

In His Name provides assistance to the homeless, displaced individuals and families, and those suffering from lack of food, clothing, shelter, and unemployment in Colleton County.  Your volunteer time will go towards sorting, inventorying, and packing donations, and assembling blessing bags along with sprucing up the landscaping outside of the facility. 

Donation items requested: grocery bags, joggers & sweatpants, t-shirts, socks, underwear, hygiene items, feminine hygiene, cosmetic or zipper pouches, and non perishable food items.  

Beyond BASIC assists people with intellectual disabilities to achieve fulfillment beyond the basics by developing independent living skills. Help make a difference by assisting with one of the signature programs or special events. Full details to follow!

During this activity, team members will walk the beach collecting trash and other miscellaneous debris to keep one of South Carolina’s most iconic coastlines pristine. Volunteers will be provided with parking passes and supplies courtesy of the City of Isle of Palms, but carpooling is highly encouraged. Details on the meet up location will be provided closer to the event date. 

Did you know that one in three families face the daily crisis of diaper need? Public safety net programs like WIC and SNAP do not cover the purchase of diapers. The Junior League of Charleston Diaper Bank provides families with access to basic necessities to support their dignity, health, and quality of life. The JLC Diaper Bank needs our help wrapping diapers and filling orders for partner agencies.  

Diaper Wrapping

The Diaper Bank wraps all of the donated diapers into packs of 25 to distribute out into the community. This helps them in many ways including inventory, minimizing storage needs for our partner organizations and consistent quality and cleanliness.

Providing FREE ever-changing gallery exhibitions, a fresh coat of paint on the walls is needed on the regular. So, pick up a paint brush or roller and enjoy an afternoon of creating a blank canvas for the next fabulous exhibit. 

During this time, we will also help spruce up their outreach vehicle "Artie the Artmobile".

Teachers' Supply Closet is a nonprofit organization that provides free school supplies to teachers in the Tri-County area who work at schools where 69% or more of the students are on the free or reduced meals program. To support the 1,000+ teachers and 25,000+ students they serve yearly, your help is greatly needed to fill orders and restock shelves. 

The Fisher House Charleston provides warm and inviting temporary accommodations to Veterans and their families while the veteran is receiving medical attention at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, Charleston, SC. During REV Day for Good, REV team members will help in meal prep and cleaning the 1st floor windows and patio furniture. 

The mission of the Charleston Parks Conservancy is to connect people to their parks. Gather at the Corrine Jones Park for general park maintenance for the fall. 

Parking: There is street parking at the park, please be mindful of signs and restrictions.

Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding empowers children and adults with disabilities to enjoy more active and fulfilling lives through therapeutic horsemanship. REV team members will help make the environment clean and safe for horses and guests through pasture maintenance, fence painting, and clearing our brush/weeds.

Items needed: Painting Supplies (small rollers, wide brushes, work gloves, etc.)

This volunteer project includes volunteering at the Fun Fest hosted by Richmond County Partnership for Children! 

There will be multiple stations including: face painting, temporary tattoos, fishing game, ring toss & more! Volunteers will help set up, welcome families, help at the stations. and make sure everyone has a great time! 

Volunteers for Backpack Pals will help to pack food bags that go home with school kids during the school year to ensure they are fed when not at school. Other duties may include stocking and cleaning. 

Please wear closed toe shoes and bring a water bottle! 

This service project includes wrapping diapers or period products into bundles, prepare orders for community parterns with distribution in the Cape Fear Region including New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus, Pender and beyond!  Work is done standing, but accomodations can be made for anyone who needs to sit. 

Join us for a morning assisting with the First Fruit Ministries food distribution during their Monday's for Moms Pantry! 

Please wear closed toe shoes and bring a water bottle. 

Spend the morning volunteering with Canines for Service!  This service project will include an introduction to what Canines for Service does, cleaning activities, and then some dog-interaction based activities! Group walks, structured play, and basic grooming. 

Notes - Please park in front of Units 1 or 3. You can access the facility by entering the gate between the two units and ringing the doorbell by the side door to Unit 1. A kennel attendant will greet you and take you to the volunteer lobby area. Please bring a bottle of water and wear close toed shoes.

Using power tools (experience not necessary), we will shape the wire into oyster cages and add recycled oyster shell inside. These wire oyster reefs will be used in future SCDNR oyster restoration projects in South Carolina, supporting our wild oyster populations and protecting shorelines.

What to wear/bring:
– Closed-toe shoes
– Appropriate clothes for that day’s weather
– Hat
– Reusable water bottle (there will be a water cooler to refill)

Restaurants and the public recycle their oyster shell through SCDNR’s oyster shell recycling drop off sites. After the shell is quarantined and cleaned, it is added to wire cages and placed in the waterways. Spat, which are baby oysters, are attracted to and settle on the shell in these wire cages creating new oyster growth and eventually new oyster reefs.

Volunteer event appropriate for adults and kids over 13 years old. Should we need to cancel due to weather, you will be notified prior to the event via email.

On the third Thursday of each month, Historic Downtown Summerville transforms into a special marketplace. While the square is closed to through traffic, vendors, food trucks, and music fill the streets. Come represent REV at our #UpTheGood tent. You'll join 3-4 other REV employees as you mix and mingle with locals and sell Summerville REV Cities t-shirts for a $15 donation to #UpTheGood. Register below to join the fun!

As the concert series sponsor for Greenfield Lake Amphitheater, REV has the opportunity to set up before concerts to greet concert goers and share the mission of REV, the #UpTheGood Foundation, and a different nonprofit on select concert dates.

This is a great opportunity to build on networking, public speaking, and relationship building while earning volunteer hours. 

2025 Event Information

Soldiers’ Angels provides an easy, no-cost way for Charleston veterans in-need to receive food assistance. Volunteers pack bags of groceries and load them into cars, pushcarts, or backpacks of registered veterans. This monthly event provides food support to over 200 veterans and their families.

This event occurs the second Tuesday of every month from 7:30 am – 12:00 am ET.

2025 Dates: January 14, February 11, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 11, December 9

Location: Elks Lodge, 1113 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407

Join Soldiers’ Angels as a volunteer and help us give back to those who have given so much for our freedoms. This volunteer opportunity requires standing, lifting and bending. Please be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. This event is held outside, regardless of weather.

The FoodShare Tri-County program provides the opportunity for individuals to invest in their health and gain access to fresh, quality food at an affordable cost. Each Fresh Food Box is filled with 10-12 varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables with a retail value of $40+. The produce varies every two weeks! Boxes are ordered in advance, and our incredible volunteer workforce spends several hours every other week counting, sorting, and packing each customer's FoodShare box with fresh fruits and veggies.

Volunteers are needed to help pack the fresh fruits and vegetables into the Fresh Food Boxes along with useful printed material in preparation for distribution to the community. We welcome all volunteers! This volunteer opportunity takes place every other Wednesday beginning at 10am in a climate controlled warehouse.

Select an area Blessing Box to donate to and #UPTHEGOOD. This is a fantastic team building activity for branches and departments. Simply select your chosen Blessing Box from the following list and grab a few non-perishable food items, basic toiletries, or baby supplies while on your normal grocery run. From there, you can coordinate dropping off the items at the location selected with your team.

Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country. REV is excited to continue rolling up our sleeves as an organization!

There is a critical need for blood at this time! It’s not every day that we do something that has such a lifesaving impact.

The first Saturday of each month ECCO opens its doors from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. to accept donations to their Wellness Pantry. Volunteers assist ECCO staff with stocking shelves, accepting donations, and help complete special projects on campus. This is a great opportunity for families to come together to volunteer at ECCO!

REV Adopted a Route at Meals on Wheels of Summerville!

It takes a village to feed the hungry. No that’s not the original quote but it sure seems appropriate when you visit us around 11 am and see the volume of people lined up to deliver meals. If you know what a LeMans start is to an old race… It seems like we should have an announcer in the background “And THEY’RE OFF!”

Truth be told, there’s no better day than one where you deliver to the homebound. You see the smile and are certain of the difference you make just by bringing a meal.

What does it take to be a volunteer? Besides the obvious compassion and love of community – you only need to be present to lend a hand. Our volunteers carry many jobs in helping to end hunger in Summerville. We’re sure we can find one to fit your time and talent which you’ll enjoy!

"The price of aluminum fluctuates on the stock market (typically from 35-85 cents/pound), and that is the amount of money that we get from recycling the pop tabs. The money we get from this is used to cover our electric bill every month, so the pop tabs make a huge difference to the RMHC Charleston House! The families here at RMHC Charleston are so thankful for your ongoing support."

Work with our team to put together small gifts for our local NICU nurses. Some months it will be attaching candies to cards and other months it may be stuffing bags with various goodies.

REV Day 2023 introduced our Helping Hands soap and dish scrubbies in-kind donations. Grab your needles and join the REV Crafters in their efforts to REV Up a local habitat home. 

Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prostheses for women who have had breast cancer and undergone mastectomy or lumpectomy. Traditional breast prosthetics can be hot, heavy and sticky. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. They are adjustable, washable and can even be worn while swimming. Our special volunteer knitters provide these FREE to those requesting them.

We're teaming up with Project Linus to share new, handmade, washable blankets for seriously ill or traumatized children. Become a "Blanketeer" to help comfort children in need. This easy, no-sew activity can be done on your own time, and is a terrific opportunity to work as a team or with family and friends at home. All needed materials are available to you through the Employee and Community Engagement Team. 

The hearts are called “Bonding Hearts.” Baby keeps one and Mama keeps one for 24 hours effectively transferring their scent to it. Then they switch. This way, Mama has baby’s scent (encouraging breast milk production during their separation) and baby gets Mama’s scent (teaching baby what Mama smells like). The Gtube covers are typically used by babies who have “Graduated” the NICU. Sometimes, the only way they can go home is with a small “port” in their stomach where they can get nutrition.

Volunteers are an important and integral part of Richmond County Hospice, Inc. We invite you to enjoy the personal satisfaction and rewards of helping others. Hold the hand of a patient, provide emotional support to a family member, or provide a break for a caregiver. You may help with reading, letter writing, or just become a companion. As a Hospice volunteer, you are an essential part of our organization, helping us to serve our patients with peace, comfort, and dignity.

REV coordinates occasional volunteer events in support of Richmond County Hospice.

The success of the North Carolina Azalea Festival is made possible through the hard work and dedication of a large corps of community volunteers. Nearly 100 volunteer committees plan and organize events such as the Parade, the Waterfront Street Fair, the Spring Soiree and the community clean-up called Azalea Sweep, as well as critical operations such as communications, transportation, sponsor relations and event hospitality.

Volunteer opportunities may be available for a single day or involve a year-round commitment. The level of involvement you choose depends on your interests and availability. We will work to get you involved in a way that you find both meaningful and enjoyable. Communication with potential new volunteers generally occurs in the beginning of the Fall, and periodically throughout Festival season (Oct-April).

Every year following the Festival we host a special party for all of the Volunteers that helped with the Festival events as a thank you. There are also social events for the Committee Chairs of each of our Committees.

Your volunteer time will be spent helping the food insecure in our community by organizing, packing and distributing food to individuals and families in need. 

Volunteer days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9:30am - 12pm. 

We can also pack kits at the branch as supplies and time permits.  This includes food kits and hygiene kits. 

When you log your hours please note if your time was spent at Our Daily Bread onsite or at the branch creating kits. Your travel time to drop off the kits can be included in your volunteer time. 

Participation in CCUL Chapter events that help aid in the advancement of credit unions' purpose through local and regional means.
