Volunteer: Meals on Wheels of Summerville Meal Delivery

REV Adopted a Route at Meals on Wheels of Summerville!

It takes a village to feed the hungry. No that’s not the original quote but it sure seems appropriate when you visit us around 11 am and see the volume of people lined up to deliver meals. If you know what a LeMans start is to an old race… It seems like we should have an announcer in the background “And THEY’RE OFF!”

Truth be told, there’s no better day than one where you deliver to the homebound. You see the smile and are certain of the difference you make just by bringing a meal.

What does it take to be a volunteer? Besides the obvious compassion and love of community – you only need to be present to lend a hand. Our volunteers carry many jobs in helping to end hunger in Summerville. We’re sure we can find one to fit your time and talent which you’ll enjoy!

Ways You Can Help Deliver meals for the REV route every other Friday Meal delivery is such a rewarding experience!Pick up meals for delivery at 11:00 a.m.The REV route typically includes eight to ten stops in the Knightsville/Summerville High School area.Delivery takes between 1-2 hours. The route is easily done solo, but certainly more fun with a friend. You will receive your route information with names and addresses at meal pickup.

The HQ Tacoma is reserved if youwould like to use REV’s wheels instead of your own personal vehicle.
Meal pickup starts at 11:00 AM at Ambler Hall located at:
St. Paul's Anglican
316 W. Carolina Ave.
Summerville, SC 29483

Volunteer: Ronald McDonald House - Collect Pop Tabs!

You can #UPTHEGOOD by collecting pop tabs – they help keep the lights on and doors open for Rondal McDonald House families!

Check with your department or branch to see where to drop them off to be donated!

"The price of aluminum fluctuates on the stock market (typically from 35-85 cents/pound), and that is the amount of money that we get from recycling the pop tabs. The money we get from this is used to cover our electric bill every month, so the pop tabs make a huge difference to the RMHC Charleston House! The families here at RMHC Charleston are so thankful for your ongoing support."

Volunteer: REV Crafters- Knitted Knockers

Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prostheses for women who have had breast cancer and undergone mastectomy or lumpectomy. Traditional breast prosthetics can be hot, heavy and sticky. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. They are adjustable, washable and can even be worn while swimming. Our special volunteer knitters provide these FREE to those requesting them.

Connect with Jennifer Koon and the REV Crafters Club to learn more!

Volunteer: NICU Hearts and Tube Covers

The hearts are called “Bonding Hearts.” Baby keeps one and Mama keeps one for 24 hours effectively transferring their scent to it. Then they switch. This way, Mama has baby’s scent (encouraging breast milk production during their separation) and baby gets Mama’s scent (teaching baby what Mama smells like). The Gtube covers are typically used by babies who have “Graduated” the NICU. Sometimes, the only way they can go home is with a small “port” in their stomach where they can get nutrition.

For the heart pattern, here is what you do:

Cut the half heart out Fold a piece of the fabric in half Align the straight edge of the heart with the FOLDED side of the fabric If it makes you more comfortable, you can trace where to cut before moving to the next step. If you have pins, you can also pin the pattern in place instead of tracing. Cut along the pattern/traced outline When you are done you should be able to unfold the fabric and have one whole heart

Volunteer: North Carolina Azalea Festival

The success of the North Carolina Azalea Festival is made possible through the hard work and dedication of a large corps of community volunteers. Nearly 100 volunteer committees plan and organize events such as the Parade, the Waterfront Street Fair, the Spring Soiree and the community clean-up called Azalea Sweep, as well as critical operations such as communications, transportation, sponsor relations and event hospitality.

Volunteer opportunities may be available for a single day or involve a year-round commitment. The level of involvement you choose depends on your interests and availability. We will work to get you involved in a way that you find both meaningful and enjoyable. Communication with potential new volunteers generally occurs in the beginning of the Fall, and periodically throughout Festival season (Oct-April).

Every year following the Festival we host a special party for all of the Volunteers that helped with the Festival events as a thank you. There are also social events for the Committee Chairs of each of our Committees.
