LOWVELO- MUSC Hollings Cancer Center
LOWVELO is an annual fundraising event that rallies the community for one cause – funding lifesaving cancer research. Our goal is to eradicate cancer by supporting research into new treatments and discoveries at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center(opens in a new tab), the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in South Carolina.
100% of every participant-raised dollar from this grassroots event goes directly to cancer research. Riders have the option of choosing one of four routes based on their desired distance – 10 miles, 22 miles, 57 miles, or 100 miles. We also have the virtual LOWVELO Home Team option for those who feel more comfortable logging miles on their own. In addition, we are excited to add stationary cycling classes to the LOWVELO lineup.
Participation is open to all fitness levels age 10 and up for the 10 mile ride and age 14 and up for the longer rides and stationary cycling classes. Each rider commits to the cause by fundraising at least a minimum amount based on their chosen distance.
While the 2020 LOWVELO was held virtually due to the pandemic, we can’t wait to see you back out on the road for a fun day of cycling, good food, and volunteerism this year! Keep an eye out for more details on routes.
Our mission at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center(opens in a new tab) is to eradicate cancer. It’s a bold mission, we know. We also know the toll cancer takes each year on our state’s residents. There will be an estimated 33,030 cases in 2021, with almost 11,000 deaths.
Hollings Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in the state. As the largest academic-based cancer research program in South Carolina, we are at the forefront of cancer research. We are also part of a network of 71 designated centers across the nation collaborating to accelerate scientific discoveries and offer cancer patients more and better treatment options.
